Student properties in Jesmond are perfectly situated for commuting to campus, whether you’re studying at Newcastle University or Northumbria University. With its own Metro stop and plenty of bus stops, Jesmond's transport links are second to none.
Newcastle University: From Jesmond, Newcastle city centre is a 13-minute walk away. Its location offers an easy commute, and will place you slap bang in the centre of all Newcastle University’s city campus buildings.
Plus, if you’re running late, you can always hop on the Yellow or Green Metro line and get to class in 10 minutes.
Northumbria University (City Campus): Northumbria University’s City Campus is just a 9-minute walk away from Jesmond, or a 3-minute cycle if you prefer travelling on two wheels!
Northumbria University (Coach Lane Campus): The Coach Lane Campus of Northumbria University is further out from the city centre. It’s based in Benton, just north of the popular student area of Heaton.
Despite the longer commute, it’s still easy to get to Coach Lane Campus from Jesmond. Walk to Jesmond Metro station, take the Yellow line to the Four Lane Ends stop (approximately 11 minutes), and then it’s a short 15-minute walk to campus. The whole journey takes approximately 26 minutes.
Jesmond student houses are as much about having fun and socialising as working and studying. As a student in Jesmond, you’ll never be without things to do — either solo or with your pals.
Fancy an impromptu football session? On the lookout for a new friendly gym? Jesmond has it all. Jesmond Dene is the perfect space for group sports or a post-class jog, walk, or run. There are also plenty of walking paths, so you can get the fresh air you crave.
As for gyms, you’re only a short walk away from the city centre, which is home to the popular PureGym and The Gym Group. If you’d prefer a workout spot closer to Jesmond, Jesmond Pool and Gym is a stone’s throw away from the popular Osborne Road.
It’s well worth visiting Jesmond Dene — even if you’re not a fitness fanatic! Jesmond Dene is a beautiful woodland park with its own waterfalls and even a petting zoo. Don’t forget to keep an eye out for open-air theatre performances in the summer months.
If you’re a foodie, you won’t want to miss the Jesmond Armstrong Bridge food market. Here, you’ll find everything from freshly baked bread and sizzling sausages to delectable sweet treats. The market runs on the first and third Saturday of every month, so get it in your diary.
Osborne Road in Jesmond houses everything from casual coffee shops for studying, to cocktail bars for post-exam celebrations. You can even find a few lively bars and dance floors in Jesmond without having to walk into the city centre!

For the classic shops we all know and love, head to Acorn Road, where you’ll find a pharmacy, post office, Tesco Express, Oxfam, and Little Waitrose within arm’s reach.
