Seekers is based in The Bruce Building in central Newcastle, a landmark Grade-II listed three-story building dating back to 1896.
Designed by architect Joseph Oswald, the Bruce Building was built as the headquarters of Newcastle Breweries and was originally part of a full brewery complex. The beautiful building is still home to some of the stunning original features, including unique stained glass windows, ornate coving, architecture and tiles dating back to 1896. After a £5m restoration project in 2015-2016, the building has been transformed into one of Newcastle’s most sought-after commercial and residential developments.
King's College, part of the University of Durham purchased the Bruce Building in the 1950s from Newcastle Breweries. The college later went on to become part of the University of Newcastle in the 1960s.
After the upper floors sat empty and neglected for many years, Michigan Investments Ltd purchased the building and transformed it into the offices and apartments in operation today. The ground floor of the building is occupied by Seekers property consultants and The Hotspur pub.
During the restoration and redevelopment project, a WWII fire watcher's post was discovered by the construction team. This rare find is one of only two in-situ in the UK with the other being at North Shields Ferry Landing. The fire watcher's post was carefully removed from site and stored until construction was complete before being returned to its original spot.
The Bruce Building benefits from a fantastic location in Newcastle City Centre, opposite Haymarket Metro and Bus station, allowing easy access in and out of the city centre. Newcastle University, Northumbria University and the Royal Victoria Infirmary are also within the local area and the building is within walking distance of Central Station for nationwide rail links.
The building’s fob and secure keypad entry systems, make it a safe place to live and work. The Seekers team are on-site during office hours and there is a 24/7 emergency support line for all tenants and guests.
