A peaceful retreat from the hustle and bustle of the city, Urban Angel specialises in a variety of complementary and alternative medicine treatments, holistic therapies and other treatments, all focused around achieving a healthy balance of body, mind and soul.
Located on St George’s Terrace, the Jesmond Centre is one of three Urban Angel locations across Newcastle – the others being Lansdowne Terrace and Great North Road in Gosforth.
The centre proved to be a hidden gem in amongst a popular boulevard of shops and bistro cafes, and is easily accessible with one side of the street offering FREE parking and a short walk to West Jesmond Metro station.
Once inside, the centre has an instant air of calm and tranquillity, and is tastefully decorated in a modern, yet peaceful manner.
Trinkets and subtle decorations make the centre seem more personal and intimate, and less clinical than most other therapy centres – something as simple as a “therapy in progress” sign on the door can make the difference between feeling welcome or just being a slot in the diary.
Our Marketing and Creative Manager, Beth, often suffers from shin splints due to regular high impact exercise classes, whilst our General Manager, Amy, often has extreme tension across her neck and shoulders.
Therapist and Urban Angel owner, Anne, came to the rescue with remedial massages for both lower legs and upper back.
Beth said: “Before visiting Anne, I’d had a load of bother with my lower legs, experiencing tension in my calves and pain down my shins, due to the type of exercise that I do, which is pretty high impact and as a result my legs take the brunt of it.
“I explained everything to Anne, who took it all in like a sponge and knew exactly what and where to target on my legs.
“I was made to feel extremely welcome and comfortable and you could genuinely see that Anne wanted to help and relieve the pain I was experiencing.
“The massage itself was one of the best I’ve ever experienced, and whilst at times painful, the relief in the pain and tension was unbelievable – I felt like I was walking on air afterwards, and did not fully grasp how tight my skeletal muscles must have been until after Anne had worked her magic.”
Meanwhile, Amy said: “‘Like most desk workers, I have in recent times suffered with really a sore neck and shoulders.
“Anne spent some time working on this area and after 15 minutes or so I could already feel a difference.
“Anne creates a very relaxing atmosphere, so despite being in the middle of a very busy residential area, you really do get lost in the centre.
“I would highly recommend a visit!’’
As well as remedial treatments, Urban Angel founder, Anne, has a passion for spiritual healing, providing holistic therapies for the whole health and wellbeing, working on the mind, body and spirit as one.
Whilst at the Jesmond Centre, both Amy and Beth experienced their first “crystal therapy” session, which is a non-invasive treatment used to facilitate healing, and is intended to re-align different energies within the body through the spiritual properties embodied in gemstones.
An experienced energy healer will intuitively scan the body’s chakras with a pendulum or simply their hand, to feel for any imbalances, which can then be realigned by placing relevant crystals on certain parts of the body.
Beth said: “I honestly did not know what to expect with crystal therapy, but I have known about the power of gemstones and have used them previously in bracelets or as decorations around the house.
“My experience during the session was very deep and meaningful, and I even felt physical sensations that I really wasn’t expecting to feel – though I must say I was never at any point uncomfortable or worried, as I felt completely in safe hands with Anne.
“To me, it makes complete sense that our energy can affect our moods, decision making and even physical wellbeing, and vice versa, so clearing out any blockages can only be beneficial.”
“I’m usually a very closed person, but after the session I do feel a lot more positive in my outlook now, and not as scared to openly show how I’m feeling.”
In addition to the treatments on offer at their three centres, Urban Angel offers a range of handmade gifts and fragrances, including resin picture frames and keyrings, candles, diffusers and room sprays.
The frames and keyrings can be personalised for birthdays, weddings or any occasion, and you can even make up a hamper with a selection of items as the perfect gift for a loved one!
The room sprays, candles and diffusers come in a range of different scents from floral notes to more fruity fragrances, meaning there is something to suit every preference – two that stood out in particular to us were the Lime, Basil and Mandarin room spray, and Violet and Sweetpea candle.
