After a wander through Jesmond Dene, why not pop along to Pets’ Corner, where you’ll find an adorable collection of animals, from goats and sheep to peacocks and rabbits? It’s an ideal activity when you have younger siblings or family members visiting, but it’s equally fun for an afternoon with friends.
This volunteer-led cinema is a wonderful community space. As well as screening all manner of arthouse and blockbuster films, new and old, the Star & Shadow hosts gigs, exhibitions, workshops, and more. It’s well worth a visit. Plus, on a Sunday, it hosts a vegan cafe.
On the 1st and 3rd Saturday of every month, an array of stallholders come together for the Jesmond Food Market on Armstrong Bridge, just a short walk from Sandyford. From street food and artisan produce to fresh veg, it’s a feast for the senses.
Several pubs and bars around Sandyford hold regular pub quizzes — a fun get-together that will get you thinking. There are quizzes and events every day of the week, so keep an eye out at venues like the Blue Bell and the Northumbria Student Union, Habita, on Sandyford Road.
